John Baker, P.E.
As one of As one of Geotechnology's co-founders, John Baker has been a driving force in the company for over two decades. His corporate responsibilities include those of Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance Officer and Secretary of the firm. His technical responsibilities include management of the Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing Technical Groups in support of the various Market Teams.
Baker has more than 40 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing. In his tenure at Geotechnology he has managed three of the firm's four technical groups and at one time served as interim manager of the Kansas City branch office. He was project manager on three of the firm's largest contracts: Special Inspections and Construction Materials Testing for the St. Louis Cardinals New Downtown Ballpark; Quality Assurance Testing for the City of St. Louis Lambert-St. Louis International Airport Expansion; and Quality Assurance Testing for the Metro Cross-County Expansion in St. Louis.
Over the years, Baker has been an integral part of the firm's strategic planning and is committed to Geotechnology's initiative to become one of the premier consulting firms in the Midwest. He recruits the most talented geotechnical engineering graduates from several Midwestern universities when adding staff to the Geotechnical Technical Group. He enjoys mentoring young engineers in areas of professionalism, teamwork and client responsiveness, and derives a great deal of satisfaction from working on projects developed through relationships with existing clients.
Baker is a registered Professional Engineer in Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Structural Technology Degree from Washington University and has completed advanced courses in soil mechanics through the University of Missouri - Rolla Graduate Extension Center at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.
Baker is very active in the Engineers' Club of St. Louis of which he is a Past President and has been granted Honorary Member status. He is past President of the St. Louis Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and is a SAME Fellow. Baker is also active in numerous professional and technical groups, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the St. Louis Concrete Council and the American Society for Testing and Materials where he has voting status on several committees.
Baker is also on the Advisory Board of St. Louis Community College - Florissant Valley and is on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of St. Louis.
